Power Supply Stable Across Luzon and Visayas, Says NGCP

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that the power supply in Luzon and Visayas has returned to normal after several days of yellow and red alerts. Earlier this week, many areas experienced rotating brownouts due to power plant outages and high electricity demand caused by hot weather. The latest update brings relief to consumers as the grid is now stable again.

Current Power Situation in Luzon and Visayas

NGCP confirmed that both Luzon and Visayas grids are now operating under normal conditions. In Luzon, available capacity reached 15,799 megawatts while peak demand was 12,107 megawatts, showing that supply is currently enough to meet demand. In Visayas, available capacity also remained higher than demand, allowing stable operations without interruptions.

Reasons Behind the Improved Power Supply

The improvement in the power situation is mainly due to several key factors. Some power plants have returned to normal operations, increasing available electricity. Weekend demand also became lower compared to weekdays. In addition, Luzon had extra reserve power, which was even shared with the Visayas grid to help stabilize supply. No major new outages were reported during this period.

Situation in the Visayas Grid

The Visayas grid also remained stable, with enough reserve power to support daily electricity needs. NGCP reported that supply levels were sufficient to cover demand without needing emergency measures. Mindanao was also confirmed to be operating under normal conditions, showing stable power across major regions of the country.

Effects of the Recent Power Shortage

Before the situation stabilized, many areas experienced rotating brownouts due to limited supply. High temperatures increased electricity use as households and businesses relied more on cooling systems. This led to temporary disruptions in work, communication services, and daily activities, causing concern among residents and business owners.

NGCP Monitoring and Future Outlook

Although the power supply is now stable, NGCP said it will continue monitoring the grid closely. Sudden increases in demand or unexpected power plant issues could still affect stability. Energy officials are also keeping watch as high temperatures continue in many areas. The goal is to maintain enough reserve power to avoid another round of power alerts.
