Power Supply Stable Across Luzon and Visayas, Says NGCP

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that the power supply situation in Luzon and Visayas has returned to normal after experiencing several days of yellow and red alerts. Earlier this week, many areas experienced rotating brownouts due to power plant outages and high electricity demand caused by hot weather.

Current Power Supply Situation

NGCP confirmed that both the Luzon and Visayas grids are now operating under normal conditions. Based on monitoring data, Luzon has enough available capacity to meet demand, giving the region a stable power reserve. This improvement brought relief to households and businesses affected by recent power interruptions.

Reasons for the Improvement

The stabilization of the power supply was caused by several factors. Some major power plants resumed operations, adding more electricity back into the grid. At the same time, weekend demand was lower, which reduced pressure on the system. Luzon also supplied excess electricity to the Visayas grid, helping balance overall supply.

Situation in Luzon and Visayas Grids

In Luzon, available capacity reached 15,799 megawatts (MW), while peak demand was 12,107 MW, showing sufficient reserve power. In the Visayas, available capacity was 2,768 MW against a peak demand of 2,339 MW, also indicating stable conditions. NGCP confirmed that the Mindanao grid remains normal as well.

Causes of Recent Power Interruptions

The earlier power shortages were mainly caused by forced outages in several power plants combined with increased electricity demand during hot weather. Many households used cooling appliances for longer hours, which raised overall consumption. These factors led to temporary brownouts in different areas.

Effects on Consumers

The power interruptions affected daily life in many regions. Some areas experienced rotating brownouts, while businesses faced temporary disruptions. Internet and communication services were also affected in some locations, and daily work schedules were delayed due to power outages.

NGCP Monitoring and Outlook

Although the situation has improved, NGCP continues to monitor the power grid closely. The agency warned that sudden demand spikes or unexpected plant outages could still affect stability. Energy officials are also watching power plant operations to ensure that reserve capacity remains sufficient.
